History and Mission

Summary of History, Mission :  The North Dakota Vision Services/School for the Blind Foundation was established in 1990 to assist the visually impaired population of North Dakota.  The Foundation’s mission is to help provide services to students and adults who are visually impaired.  It furnishes computers, high-tech reading devices, speech improvement, and scholarships for higher education and vocational training.  It also funds social, recreational, and athletic events for North Dakota’s students who are visually impaired.  All services and equipment provided by the Foundation are over and above basic educational services appropriated by the state legislature to the North Dakota Vision Services/School for the Blind (NDVS/SB), which serves students of our state who are blind or visually impaired.

Collaboration with Other Organizations:

bulletThe ND Vision Services/School for the Blind Foundation works with the ND Association for the Blind to help provide travel funding for a recreational event called Ski for Light.  This is an annual winter event in South Dakota that offers cross-country and down-hill skiing for blind/visually impaired individuals.
bulletThe foundation works closely with the ND Vision Services/School for the Blind to help provide materials that are not available with state funding.
